At last our long awaited time away alone had arrived!!! My Mum was over from the US for her annual month long break with us and she is a lovely and willing babysitter...so why not take advantage! We love spending time deciding where to go and where to stay, I do admit that I spend hours trawling the internet looking at Trip Advisor, Booking.com, AirBnb and so on...so many options and so many cool and amazing places to stay and enjoy! So anyway we didn't want to go far so we could enjoy our accommodation and do plenty of relaxing.......we chose to go to Thames...a place we have been through many times but never spent anytime in. We finally booked a place on AirBnb and what a find, I check my diary everyday to try and find a date we can get back, of course we also need to tie that in with a babysitter!! So we headed away on the Wednesday afternoon, relaxation set in...we just popped into Thames to get some supplies wine, cheese and chocolate. We then drove off to find our accommodation. It was gorgeous and we would highly recommend it, it is owned and looked after by Wendy and she advertises on Airbnb. It is a wonderfully cute little cabin /cottage on their land but is very private and has everything you need with some wonderful touches. It is tastefully decorated and surrounded by lovely bush, you can lie in bed and look out to the trees and listen to the cicadas talking, sit on the loo and look at beautiful green ferns through the huge glass window. Needless to say we just lounged our way through the evening!
Sadly we only had 1 night so had to leave the next morning. We headed into Thames and had a walk up and down the high street, it is a great little high street and we reckon you could pretty much everything you needed in Thames, it also had some great op shops ad we snapped up a few bargains. We had a drink break at Cafe Uno before we headed further north to find a beach to sit, relax, read travel books and discuss our next travel plans. It was wonderfully quiet and we found the perfect spot to put out the picnic blanket and relax in the sun. Soon it was time to head home but we managed to squeeze in an ice cream from the lovely Waiomu Beach Cafe. This cafe has a great spot just across the road from the beach and was very popular, we didn't eat here but the menu looked lovely and the cakes very tempting...we just went for the ice cream, I had liquorice allsorts for 1 scoop and added a scoop of coconut sorbet on the top.....
