The Perfect Taupo Weekend

Updated: Sep 28, 2020

As is tradition for us now (and hopefully may it long continue) we head to Taupo for Anniversary weekend to enjoy the Summer Concert. My wonderful, Mel, who I go

along with is a music guru, me not so much, I love music but never have much clue of who sings what! I must admit I hadn't heard of the bands that were playing this year but when the music started playing I knew quite a lot of the songs. They have 3 bands and 2 support acts, you basically head in at 11 and sit in the sun and listen to music all day, you can take in nibbles and they have a reasonable cash bar. It is a great place to sit and chill, hang out with friends and relax. We saw Toni Childs, Supertramp and James Reyne and Mark Seymour. Highly recommend. We headed back at about 7 to be fed a beautiful dinner of ham, potatoes and corn. Followed by the delcious Salada slice! My hubby had been watching our kids all day along with our friends and they had a great day wharf jumping, swimming, buying lollies from the diary and just chillin! As relaxing as it sounds it is exhausting sitting around listening to music all day so it wasn't long before we headed to bed!

We woke up to another glorious day on Sunday, the husbands went off for a swim down the river and we tucked in to a lovely cooked breakfast! Then we headed down to Otumuheke Stream and Spa park where we collected the swimmers and had a soak in the warm waters there, this is a lovely natural area that has recently been touristfied, but is still stunning and a great way to enjoy the water and relax.

After lunch we headed to Little Acacia Bay for a dip, once again there was wharf jumping, pontoon diving and exploring "The Point"! There was also ice cream eating when Mr Whippy paid a visit! Very nice it was too.

All too sadly the time came to pack up and head away home, these are the weekends when you wish it could turn into a week!

We headed north and getting hungry decided to stop in Putaruru for something to eat, somewhere we haven't explored yet, much to our amazement and entertainment there was an international food hall - yum!! We headed in and found 3 of the stalls open but this was enough we got food to share and had a yummy pizza, nachos and a butter chicken with naan bread...it was lovely food and nice service, we will be stopping there again for sure.

A lovely end to a great weekend....bring on next year!!
