Another hot Sunday morning and we were at the Auckland Champs for athletics. My son was competing in his first Racewalking event ever and guess what he got a Gold Medal!! So happy for him and just love seeing the big grin from ear to ear and how proud he looked standing on the podium....this has definitely inspired him to train more (well do any training at all!!)

He has spotted the Woodturners Cafe numerous times when we have been heading to Tauranga or out in that direction, we have been past a few times but either at the wrong time for eating and coffee (is there a wrong time??) or we haven't had the time to stop and so on. So after athletics we were heading to Pauanui so finally we had an excuse to stop here, Marcus won a gold medal, we were not in a hurry and it was feeding time!

This place is gorgeous, it looks so inviting and beautifully set up, presented and looked after. It has that lovely cottage feel and very homely. Gave me lots of inspiration. The menu looked great and the cabinet food. It wasn't cheap but thought what the heck it looks good! We made our choices and then sat in the lovely courtyard and played a game of tic tac toe. The food came promptly. Now don't get me wrong we enjoyed our meals but comparatively we found it expensive for the standard and quality. There weren't any leftovers so it must have been nice but not as good as we expected. The youngest one had the best dish with the fish and chips and Tess came off the least satisfied with her waffles, they were rather thin and quite hard, looked like they had been put in a toaster.

Overall thugh we would come back here to soak up the atmosphere and just have a coffee and cake.

There is a great playground area at the back to entertain your kids and we would have spent more time there if it hadn't been too hot!!

I reckon give it a go!

About Me

I LOVE travelling and exploring! Any spare time I have you will find me planning our next holiday or day away! I spend hours reading travel books, blogs, websites and Lonely Planets!  Exploring has always been in my blood but really took off when I was 16 and I travelled to Australia from the UK for a 6 week holiday with my family and we camped our way around Australia..I bought my first Lonely Planet  and that was that! After graduating from University I embarked on what would become 2 years of travelling the world, I returned to work in the travel industry and eventually ended up moving to New Zealand where I now live and am a Stay At Home Mum to my 3 wonderful kids!

As well as  travelling overseas we love exploring the other side of our own doorstep...I really want to share our adventures and inspire you to make your own and also give handy tips and trivia, I learn so much from other people I feel I would like to give back.

Enjoy and happy exploring! xx
